First I would like to welcome Skapatalist as the newest member of the SkaFreaks staff. He will be joining the team as the head of band information.
I have also been working on a new idea for the site. With the new setup any site member can submit updates for any band. So far any member can edit the basic band info and the band bio. I plan to have more updates up soon. The updates will still have to be verified before they show up.

Hello SkaFreaks
First Happy New Year! SkaFreaks in some way or form has now been around for over 8 years. Going into the new year and discovering the growing popularity of the radio station, I have decided for now, to make it my main focus. The site itself will be pushed to the back burner and the radio will be put in the microwave. I will be spending every chance I have finding and reviewing music to add to the station. We have gone from a small station broadcasting ska to 2-3 people at a time to the largest ska station in existence. We are now pulling an average of over 20 listeners at a time and hit a high peak of 35 this past week. The word is spreading and with us pushing the word in more ways this coming year it is expected to spread even more.

Radio News 50+ Tracks added to the radio

I just added a bunch of Bad Manners tracks to the radio. I have also decided, even though some of Streetlight Manifestos tracks aren't ska, that I wanted to up all of their tracks. They are one of my favorite bands of all time and I control the radio. So this one time I am saying my radio my rules. Don't like it, make your own station. Do like it, awesome!!

Radio News Requests For Guests, Looser Playlist Rules & Weighted Playing

Since our station is now being listed on Itunes we have decided to open things up a little bit for site guests. Guests will now be able to request 5 songs every hour on the station. Being a member still has it's benefits, as members have unlimited requests. So anyone first visiting us please feel free to control the station and play what you want to hear. Make A Request.
We have also loosened up the rules on how often an artist or track can be played. The same artist can now be played every 30 minutes and the same track every 2 hours.
Another addition is weighted tracks. Every track on our playlist has a rating. Every time you request a song that rating goes up and the song gets played more. Every time a song is played the rating goes down and it is then played less. So go request your favorite songs and get them playing more.

We have just updated SkaFreaks TV. We were having some problems with the script used for the tv and the amount of videos being handle slowing things down. That has now been fixed! We also set up a queue with videos in it and list the upcoming videos. This is also the first step to getting tv requests working. We also have a couple hundred new tracks getting set to be added to the radio.

The database update is now complete. All of the pages should be working again. If you encounter any errors, please shoot me some feedback. I also updated the Discs page and finally got it so when you click lyrics they open up automatically without reloading the page. I also added a listen button so songs that are uploaded can be listened to from the discs page.

I have updated the Picture Gallery. It is now working great and you can check out Pictures, Logos, Disc Covers, and Show Flyers in the Picture Gallery. I will be adding another update soon that lets you select to view one or all of the types of images.
I have also been hard at work adding info for The Slackers to the site. As the band of the month they are my main focus. I have added a full discography, lyrics for many of their songs, pictures and more. I am working through their music collection and will have updated audio and videos soon as well.

MP4 files work on almost all major video players and portable devices, so this seems to be the best format for online videos. I am reworking the video section to reflect this. After being on the air (most of the time) for about 7 years now, I am sad to say that SkaFreaks Radio will be going offline, possibly for good. Things in my life are changing and due to these things I will not be able to host the station any longer. I have enjoyed broadcasting Ska to the world, and I hope all of you have enjoyed listening to the station. Sometime in the future I may revisit the possibility of a new station, but that would be at least a year away. SkaFreaks.com will still remain up and 100% active, just the radio will be going down.
